Slideshow fatal error in Google Chrome

User: JMJ V. 7 years ago
I've uploaded a new website and it's working fine under Safari and Win Expl. But in Google Chrome the slideshow widget shows following message: "fatal error: Theme CSS could not load after 20 sec. Please download the latest theme at http://galleria.io/customer/". The slideshow is not shown at all. Just the red beam with the message.

Is this something in Everweb or in the Google Chrome browser? How can it be corrected?

Hi,

Chances are you have a lot amount of large images in your gallery and it is taking Google Chrome too long to download them.

How many images have you added to the slider?

Also how many different image sliders do you have on the page?

Can you provide the exact URL that you are having problems with?

Hi, Paul, thanks for your answer. I've used 2 slideshows at the whole website. 1 is filled with app. 19 pictures most under 100kb and some between 100-200 kb. The other one has 5 pictures each between 50-100 kb

as said, it works fine in Safari and win expl but not in Google Chrome.

Hi, Paul, have you been able to find out what the problem is with the image sliders ?

The slider works OK for me when viewed in Google Chrome although I do have a fairly fast internet connection.

I think the main problem is because you have chosen to autoplay the slides which seems a bit like overkill when you have a thumbnail grid, directional arrows and a lightbox slideshow!

Autoplaying slideshows are an irritation to a lot of visitors who either leave the page or scroll it out of view. Autoplay should never be used on the mobile version of the site.

I have exactly the same problem but am only using 3 images 45, 86 and 66kb size and only one slideshow on the page. On checking with my internet connection which is not fast it works perfectly on IE & Chrome on Imac 27'. But as soon as I tested it on Windows computer the issue shows up and it tells me to download an updated version only on Chrome so I may suggest if this happens on my test site what about other people using Windows and Chrome browser ???????

The first thing to look at is the actual image files. In one of the sliders, the OP has an image with seven spaces in the file name! Image file names form part of a URL and should never have spaces. Use a hyphen to separate the words and make sure there are no special characters.

Always us JPEGS. PNGs can cause loading problems in some browser.

Avoid autoplay. If you have to use it, choose a more basic slideshow.

Galleria generates the thumbnail images from the full size ones so, if you have thumbnails or use autoplay, all the full size images have to download on page load. This in itself can cause the loading error - especially if there are bad file names too.
