Viewing Video Formats

Video Formats

User: Les C. 8 years ago
Is it still necessary today to create and upload multiple video formats to allow play on modern browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera)?

Or will one format suffice? If so, which one (MP4, WebM, OGG, mov, etc.)?

Thanks,

All modern browsers will play MP4 but you need an OGG or WebM for slightly older versions of Firefox and IE lower than 9.

The compromise is the MP4 Video widget which allows you to use an MP4 with flash fallback for older versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox. It is also an improvement over the default EverWeb widget in that it displays a poster image on page load and is set to prevent preload.

The aboves widgets use Mediaelement which is kind of impossible to make responsive. The Flex XT responsive video extension widget uses VideoJS with some java script to get the thing working on a dynamic layout.
