Image file sizes - are they ever accurate?

When I create a png that is 200 x 200 and it's file size reads 208 KB, I'm a little suspicious. So then I drag it into TinyPNG (an awesome web app that compresses png's) and it shows that it's original size is 62.8 KB. Which is more like it! (It then compresses it to 22 KB). But why am I getting different size readouts? If I open the photo in Preview, and Command I it, or just view its size in Finder, it always seems too big. Makes me suspicious of my jpegs also!
